Character of A Happy Life- Sir Henry Wotton

About The Poet-

Sir Henry Watton, a famous scholar, and critic of the seventeenth century were born in 1568. He was educated at Winchester and entered the Middle Temple to qualify for practising at the bar. He was not only the poet but also a diplomat. His famous writings are 'Character of a Happy Life', 'On His Mistress', 'The queen of Bohemia', and 'You Meaner Beauties of the Night'.  

कवि के बारे में-

सर हेनरी वॉटन, एक प्रसिद्ध विद्वान और सत्रहवीं शताब्दी के आलोचक का जन्म 1568 में हुआ था। उन्हें विनचेस्टर में शिक्षित किया गया था और बार में अभ्यास के लिए अर्हता प्राप्त करने के लिए  Middle Temple में प्रवेश किया। वह न केवल कवि थे, बल्कि एक राजनयिक भी थे। उनके प्रसिद्ध लेखन में 'कैरेक्टर ऑफ ए हैप्पी लाइफ', 'ऑन हिज मिस्ट्रेस', 'क्वीन ऑफ बोहेमिया', और 'यू मीन ब्यूटीफुलिज ऑफ द नाइट' हैं।

About The Lesson-

According to Sir Henry Wotton, the Life of a truly happy man is marked by true freedom of thought, righteousness, honesty, truth, simplicity, faith, carefreeness and self-contentment. He is always free from jealousy. ill-will and worldly anxieties.

पाठ के बारे मे-

सर हेनरी वॉटन के अनुसार, वास्तव में खुश रहने वाले व्यक्ति का जीवन विचारों, धार्मिकता, ईमानदारी, सच्चाई, सादगी, विश्वास, लापरवाही और आत्म-संतोष की सच्ची स्वतंत्रता से चिह्नित होता है। वह हमेशा ईर्ष्या से मुक्त रहता है। बीमार और सांसारिक चिंताओं  से  भी।

Para- 1:

How happy is he born or taught,
That serveth not another's will;
Whose armour is his honest thought,
And simple truth, his utmost skill!

जन्म या शिक्षा से वह व्यक्ति कितना प्रसंन  है

जो दूसरों की इच्छा के अनुसार कार्य नहीं करता। 

इमानदारी का विचार उसका एक मात्र कवच है 

तथा सरल सत्य ही उसकी सर्वोत्तम योग्यता  है।  

Para- 2:
Whose passions not his masters are,

Whose soul is still prepared for death; 

Untied unto the world with care,
Of princely love or vulgar breath;

सच्चा प्रश्न व्यक्ति मन की तीन इच्छाओ  (क्रोध, भय, हर्ष  आदि) के नियंत्रण में नहीं रहता।

वह मृत्यु के लिए सदैव तैयार रहता है। 

वह सांसारिक चिंताओं से परेशान नहीं रहता है।  

वह न तो राजा की कृपा की इच्छा करता है और ना ही साधारण लोगों की आलोचना की चिंता करता है।  

Para- 3:
Who hath his life from rumours freed, 

Whose conscience is his strong retreat; 

Whose state can neither flatterers feed,
Nor ruin make oppressors great;

उसका जीवन अफवाहों से मुक्त रहता है। 

उसकी अंतरात्मा ही उसका द्रण शरणस्थल है। 

अर्थात वह अपनी आत्मा की आवाज के अनुसार कार्य करता है। 

वह अन्य लोगों की चापलूसी से प्रभावित नहीं होता है। 

उसका विनाश, दमन करने वाले को महान नहीं बना सकता है। 

Para- 4 :

Who envies none whom chance doth raise, 

Nor vice; who never understood;
How deepest wounds are given with praise, 

Nor rules of state, but rules of good;

ऐसा व्यक्ति दूसरे किसी ऐसे व्यक्ति से ईर्ष्या नहीं करता है जिसने संयोग से प्रगति की है। 

वह कभी नहीं समझता की प्रशंसा के घाव कितनी गहरे  होते हैं 

अर्थात झूठी  प्रशंसा से वह प्रभावित नहीं होता।  

उसे राज्य के नियमों की चिंता नहीं बल्कि वह अच्छाई के नियमों का पालन करता है। 

Para- 5 :

Who God doth late and early pray,
More of his grace than gifts to lend;
Who entertains the harmless day,
With a well-chosen book or friend;

वह प्रात: तथा सांय ईश्वर की प्रार्थना उसकी कृपा प्राप्ति के लिए करता है,

वह किसी फल  प्राप्ति की इच्छा से नहीं करता। 

वह अपना दिन किसी अच्छी पुस्तक के पढ़ने या मित्र के साथ बिताता है। 

Para- 6 :
This man is free from servile bands,
Of hope to rise, or fear to fall;
Lord of himself, though not of lands,
And having nothing, he hath all.

ऐसा  व्यक्ति गुलामी के बंधनों से मुक्त होता है। 

उसे ना तो ऊंचा उठने  की आशा होती है और ना ही गिरने का भय रहता है। 

चाहे वह सांसारिक संपत्ति का स्वामी ना हो लेकिन वह अपने मन का स्वामी है। 

उसके पास कुछ ना होते हुए भी सब कुछ है अर्थात उसके पास संतोष धन होता है।
