The True Beauty- Thomas Carew

About The Poet-

Thoms Carew, one of the cavalier poets, was born in West Wickham in 1598. His father's name was Sir Mathew Carew who was a master in Chancery. He was educated at Corpus Christ, Oxford. His longest and the masterpiece creation, 'The Rapture' is a fine love poem. He also wrote a number of graceful songs and lyrics; 'The True Beauty' is one of them. His poems are highly musical.

Thoms Carew, जो साहसी कवियों में से एक थे, 1598 में वेस्ट विकम में पैदा हुए थे। उनके पिता का नाम Sir Mathew Carew था।  जो चांसरी में एक मास्टर थे। उन्हें Corpus Christ, Oxford में शिक्षित किया गया था। उनकी सबसे लंबी और उत्कृष्ट कृति, 'द रैप्टर' एक बेहतरीन प्रेम कविता है। उन्होंने कई सुंदर गीत और गीत भी लिखे; 'द ट्रू ब्यूटी' उनमें से एक है। उनकी कविताएँ अत्यधिक संगीतमय हैं।

About The Lesson-

In this lesson, the poet prefers spiritual beauty to physical beauty. He says that physical charms decay with the passage of time and with the decay of these charms, the intensity of the lover's feeling also declines. But spiritual beauty never dies. 

पाठ के बारे मे-

इस पाठ में कवि आध्यात्मिक सौंदर्य से लेकर शारीरिक सौंदर्य तक को तरजीह देता है। वह कहते हैं कि भौतिक आकर्षण समय के बीतने के साथ और इन आकर्षण के क्षय के साथ, प्रेमी की भावना की तीव्रता में गिरावट आती है। लेकिन आध्यात्मिक सुंदरता कभी नहीं मरती है।

Para- 1:

He that loves a rosy cheek,
Or a coral lip admires,

Or from star-like eyes doth seek,
Fuel to maintain his fires;

As old-time makes these decay,
So his flames must waste away.

जो व्यक्ति अपनी प्रेयसी के गुलाबी कपोलों (गाल ) को प्रेम करता है, 

अथवा मूगें जैसे लाल ओठों की प्रशंसा करता है, 

अथवा सितारे जैसी चमकदार आंखों में,

अपने प्रेम की अग्नि को प्रज्वलित रखने के लिए ईंधन की तलाश करता है, 

उसकी प्रेमअग्नि अवश्य ही समाप्त हो जाएगी ,

क्योंकि समय की गति ( वृद्धावस्था) के साथ शारीरिक सुंदरता ( गुलाबी  कपोल, लाल ओठ  तथा  सुंदर आंखें ) नष्ट हो जाती हैं। 

Para- 2:
But a smooth and steadfast mind,
Gentle thoughts, and calm desires,
Hearts with equal love combined,
Kindle never-dying fires;
Where these are not, I despise,
Lovely cheeks or lips or eyes.

लेकिन एक सा रहने वाला तथा दृढ़ मस्तिष्क, 

सुंदर विचार तथा शांत इच्छाएं,

तथा समान प्रेम से जुड़े ह्रदय, 

चिरस्थाई प्रेमअग्नि को प्रज्ज्वलित रखते हैं। 

जहां पर ये वस्तुएं नहीं होती है, 

वहां मैं सुंदर गालों,  ऑठो  अथवा आंखों से घृणा करता हूं।
