La Belle Dame Sans Merci- John Keats About The Poet- John Keats was born in London in 1795. He was educated at a private school at Enfield and at the age of 15, was apprenticed to a surgeon. But he gave up medicine in favour of poetry. I n 1817,  he published his first volume of verse but it attracts little notice.
